Helpful advice when moving or relocating – across town or across country.
No one likes moving. It may be fun to put away your things in a new home but the idea
of packing and moving is usually not enjoyable for anyone. Regardless of how you may feel about it, if you are buying or selling a home you will have to pack and move. Here are some key tips when moving to Chandler to keeping things in order and keeping your stress level down.
- Realize you don’t have to move it all
Many people collect items as you live. If you can’t bear to throw anything out, that can add up fast especially if you have lived in the current home for a long time. Items, household belongings and collections can certainly add up. Before you put one item in a box know what’s coming along with you and what’s not. This is the perfect time to donate, have a yard sale and get rid of anything you don’t want to take with you.
Don’t just throw everything into boxes and sort it when you get there. Start now and stay organized and it will make everything work out better when moving to Chandler.
- Pack up rooms and seasonal items first
If there are certain rooms that you don’t go it often or a Christmas closet or party outfits that you know you won’t need for a while, pack these first. Clear out one closet at a time. Pack up kitchen appliances and tools you only use once in a while. Clean out garages and pack up tools and instruments you won’t need until you move. By starting there you will have more room to organize as you go.
- Label every box with the item and the room
It may not be possible to fill every box with the exact items for that area, location or need so write as much information on the box as you need to. Once box may hold plates but they also may be wrapped in blankets or towels. Write this on the box so you don’t see a box of plates and wonder where you packed your towels.
- Get a plan for travel and moving expenses
This of course will depend if you are moving to Chandler from over the country or just across town. If you are moving to another state you will want to make sure all your subscription, prescriptions, and memberships are either transferred or cancelled. Get medical and school records transferred and mail stopped or sent to the new address. If traveling with children make sure there are activities and toys along the way and plan for snacks and meals on the go with portable utensils and plates. Reserve a moving truck and factor in gas costs, food, lodging and miscellaneous expenses for anything that may come up.
- Know your new community
If you’re moving to Chandler you will want to know as much about the town as possible. Get a map, know the Chandler chamber of commerce and get a sense of your neighborhood with online resources and tips.
